What Does SR-22 Insurance Cover?

SR-22 is not an insurance type but rather a form that drivers convicted of serious traffic offenses must file to prove their auto liability insurance complies with Georgia’s financial responsibility laws.

The agents at Peachstate Insurance serve the entire state of Georgia and can help you navigate the state’s SR-22 filing requirements. Contact us today if you’ve received notice that you must file SR-22.  Red car from bottom left

What Auto Insurance Does Georgia Require for the SR-22 Form?
Drivers who must file an SR-22 form must prove their policy meets Georgia’s minimum auto insurance requirements, including the following:

  • Bodily injury liability can help pay medical costs for third parties injured in an at-fault accident.
  • Property damage liability can help pay to repair or replace third-party property after an at-fault accident.

While having appropriate liability coverage satisfies Georgia’s auto insurance rules, you may also need full coverage auto insurance if you have an auto loan or lease your vehicle. Full coverage insurance typically includes comprehensive and collision coverage, which may help pay to repair or replace your covered vehicle after an accident or incident.

Depending on your situation, your agent may recommend that you further customize your coverage to include the following:

  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
  • Towing coverage
  • Rental reimbursement coverage
  • Medical payments (MedPay) coverage

How to File an SR-22 Form
Contact your agent or insurer immediately if you must file an SR-22 form. Georgia requires the driver’s insurer to file the form on the insured’s behalf.

You may need to file an SR-22 form after a serious driving offense, even if you don’t have a vehicle registered in your name. Non-owner car insurance can help you comply with Georgia’s minimum liability requirements so you can get your license reinstated or keep your driving privileges.

How to Get High-Risk Auto Insurance
Some insurers don’t provide coverage to high-risk drivers, so you may need to shop around for coverage.

At Peachstate Insurance, we understand that getting the best possible auto insurance rates is crucial to your financial stability. Contact us today to get personalized quotes for auto insurance that complies with Georgia’s financial responsibility regulations.
